Any time you request a re-crawl of your site, once the index is complete, if for any reason you detect errors and/or omissions in your new search results, you can always revert to your previous index, in order to restore your search results to their previous state.

However, as an alternative, you can elect to re-crawl your site in 'staging' mode. Re-crawling in staging mode creates a 'pending' index, which will not replace the currently active index for your site. This option is especially handy for those who have made significant changes to their site's design / layout / content and would like to verify the accuracy of a re-crawl, before accepting the new index for release into their production environment.

To re-crawl your site in 'staging' mode, when clicking on the 'request spider' link available via the left-hand navigation menu of your account, place a checkmark in the 'Build Staging Index' option box before selecting the 'Request Spider' button. Upon completion of your site's re-crawl, you will receive an email notification, however, as referenced above, your current index will NOT be replaced.

To review the status of your staging index, from the 'spider' tab, select the 'index options' link, and on the resultant page, select the 'View / Publish Staging Index' option.

From this page, select the 'View' button in order to review the search results for your staging index. You can verify that your search results are for your staging index, as you will see a red message within your search results labeled '( STAGING MODE )'.

After confirming that your staging index is accurate, in order to move your staging index into production, select the 'Publish' icon available from the same page.

Please Note: Anytime your site is re-crawled, whether in standard mode or staging mode, the new index files generated as a result of the most recent crawl are moved to a temporary set of data files. Your current index files are then backed up, and your new temporary files are subsequently moved into production. When the 'staging' mode has been selected, FusionBot simply halts this process for moving your temporary files into production until you manually elect to 'publish' your index, at which time the temporary files created are made active. As such, if you have your auto-refresh rate set to anything other than 'On Demand Only', when your auto-refresh occurs, if you have a temporary set of index files in place as a result of a 'staging' re-crawl request, your staging index will be overwritten upon completion of the auto-refresh process.

Also, if you have built a staging index and would like to view either your 'Index Log' or your 'Directory Page Count' reports for your staging index, rather than your currently active index, when generating either of these reports, place a checkmark in the 'view staging' option box.
